GLASS Project

My Mission Statement

I strive to one day make an impact in the health industry, specifically to give the much needed attention to discoveries regarding women's health. In order to do so, I seek professional, leadership, and academic development opportunities to equip me with the technical and soft skills I need to get closer to this goal.

About GLASS Projects

The projects for Tandon Honors students in the Global Leaders & Scholars in STEM program consists of a culmination of various experiences, research, and interests related to the Tandon Areas of Research Excellence. Scholars are also required to address the NAE Grand Challenges and think about the United Nations Sustainability Development Goals when doing so. At the end of the 3 years in the GLASS Program, students have a better understanding of the impact they can have on changing the world for the better. GLASS students enter the world as globally competent and socially responsible innovators and engineers!

UN Sustainable Development Goals/ NAE Challenges

My mission statement tackles two of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Goal #3: Good Health and Well-being. My challenge is one that serves to ensure that all individuals, regardless of economic standing, nationality, gender, race, sexual orientation, or any other aspects of their identity, receive access to healthcare and have a basic understanding of their own health and health literacy.

Goal #10: Reduced Inequalities. This UN Goal outlines the aim to reduce the present inequalities between nations and the respective lifestyles their citizens have. My challenge aims to present a solution that is applicable to many situations and can be adapted by all kinds of communities in varying nations.

My research approaches women's health through the lens closing the gap in understanding physical microbiota of women's reproductive system. I am currently working towards developing technology that can help scientists and doctors gain an in-depth understanding women's naturally ocurring bacteria and their connection to well-being.

Areas of Excellence

My mission statement targets the Urban and Health areas under the Tandon Areas of Excellence. Health is a relevant field since my mission statement tackles the issue of women's health and the disparity that exists in understanding the differences between biologically male and female bodies.

Urban is a relevant field because of the social engineering aspect of my challenge, and acknowledging that not all communities have equal access to healthcare resources, thus my solution must accommodate for all ranges of societies.

Another potential area could be Emerging Media since media is a very relevant and direct source of information for individuals and my research surrounds doctors being more informed about women's reproductive health before making diagnoses and suggestions.
