Leadership has always been an important aspect of my academic and professional career and something that I have always been drawn to. I first assumed a leadership role at NYU by acting as Co-President of the Brooklyn Residence Halls during my first year at NYU. In my second year, I decided to move up to school-wide leadership and acted as the Director of Programming for the Tandon Undergraduate Student Council. As the DoP for TUSC, I ran the programming branch and was responsible for overseeing all of the programming and events that TUSC held, from brainstorming to acquiring the materials to booking the spaces and coordinating with other members and external parties the day of to ensure smooth completion of the event. This was an extremely informative role as it taught me a lot of real-world, professional skills regarding communication, working in a team, and the expectations that come from being part of a larger system. I had the opportunity to learn what it means to have timely and appropriate communication, how to diffuse disputes, and how to problem-solve in times when things do not go according to plan. This role was one of the most significant contributors to my knowledge of basic professional etiquette and time management among many other important skills needed in the professional world.
